Lately I've been thinking a lot about routines.
Some routines are good for us. In fact, I think routines can help us live healthier, less stressful lives. They give us structure, keep us organized, and help us accomplish the things we need to do.
But lately I've noticed something else.
Sometimes I feel like a robot.
Every day starts to look exactly like the day before.
Wake up.
Coffee.
Workout.
Shower.
Breakfast.
Work.
Dinner.
Clean up.
TV.
Bed.
Repeat.
Don't get me wrong...
There are routines I genuinely love.
The Routines That Make Me Feel Good
One of the biggest changes I've made this year is eating healthier.
I'm trying not to obsess over the number on the scale anymore. Instead, I'm focusing on making better choices and taking care of my body.
That routine actually makes me feel good.
I also love my morning and evening skincare routines.
Those few quiet minutes remind me to slow down and do something just for me. It's become part of my self-care, and I honestly look forward to it every day.
Even my workouts—even though I don't always feel like doing them—leave me feeling stronger and more energized afterward.
Those routines add something positive to my day.
Then There Are the Other Routines...
You know the ones.
Monday means grocery shopping.
Certain days mean cleaning the house.
Every afternoon it's, "What's for dinner?"
Laundry.
Errands.
Appointments.
The never-ending to-do list.
Some days it feels like I'm simply checking boxes instead of actually living.
I catch myself thinking...
"There has to be a different way."
Or...
"I should change this."
But then...
I don't.
Because routines are comfortable.
Even the ones we're tired of.
Why Is It So Hard to Change?
I think part of it is that routines become habits.
And habits don't require us to think.
Changing them does.
It's easier to keep doing the same thing—even when we know we need something different.
I don't think I'm looking for a completely different life.
I think I'm just looking for a little more variety.
A little more spontaneity.
A reason to look forward to something unexpected.
Maybe It's the Little Changes That Matter
Maybe it's trying a new recipe.
Taking a different walking route.
Reading outside instead of inside.
Calling a friend.
Starting a hobby you've been putting off.
Going somewhere you've never been before—even if it's only a new coffee shop.
Maybe we don't need to completely reinvent our lives.
Maybe we just need to interrupt the routine every once in a while.
What This Has to Do With My Business
Believe it or not, this applies to my Avon business, too.
After all these years, it's easy to fall into the habit of doing things the same way because that's what I've always done.
Sometimes I catch myself going through the motions instead of trying something new.
That's actually one of the reasons I started this blog.
It's pushed me to learn, write, share, and connect with people in a completely different way.
It's reminded me that growth doesn't always come from doing more.
Sometimes it comes from doing something different.
Whether that's writing a blog, trying a new skincare ingredient, creating a Pinterest pin, or simply having a conversation with someone who loves beauty as much as I do.
My Goal
I don't think routines are the enemy.
Some routines make us healthier.
Some make us calmer.
Some remind us to take care of ourselves.
But maybe every once in a while we need to ask ourselves...
Which routines are helping me...and which ones are just keeping me on autopilot?
I'm still figuring that out.
Maybe you are too.
I'd Love to Hear From You
Is there a routine you love because it helps you feel healthier or more at peace?
Or is there one you've been wanting to change but just haven't?
Sometimes knowing we're not the only ones feeling this way is exactly what we need.
